Guided by the vision of our founders, winemaker Michael Silacci combines intuition and technical acumen with the dual perspective of viticulturist and winemaker. From tasting berries to careful sorting and extended aging in new French oak barrels, each stage of the winemaking process is afforded the same meticulous consideration and attention. After 18 months, the Opus One wine is bottled and held an additional 15 months until release on October 1st each year.

Place, often defined as terroir, represents the geography, the climate and the essential human element which is captured in the wine’s balance between power and finesse, structure and texture. The essence of time is expressed in Opus One wine by the character of each vintage. The facial profile of the two founders is visible on their iconic label. Producing luxury wines from its Napa Valley vineyards, the partnership made its first vintage in 1979 and has made wine at Opus One since 1991. The season also included return engagements as part of the Pittsburgh Chamber Music Society series as well as at Duke University, and a second feature on the popular NPR program, "St. The group also made their debut at the June Music Festival in Albuquerque, presenting a series of the works of Dvorak alongside American music by Aaron Kernis, Harkte and Donald Crockett. The 2003-2004 season of OPUS ONE included a series at Tully Hall (Lincoln Center) celebrating the music of Antonin Dvorak, hosted by the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. The piece, an emotional musical tribute to 9/11, was enthusiastically received. Along with the Pittsburgh and Cleveland Chamber Music Societies, OPUS ONE commissioned the outstanding composer, Stephen Hartke to write a new quartet, "Beyond Words" which was premiered in December, 2001. OPUS ONE has presented several other World Premieres as well. Their orchestral debut was with the Chattanooga Symphony, performing Beethoven's "Triple Concerto" and a work written by Douglas Lowry especially for the entire group with orchestra. Subsequent seasons have included recital debuts in New York, Detroit, Los Angeles, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, San Diego, Philadelphia and Portland, OR, all to great acclaim. The group made their debut on Octoat the Library of Congress in Washington, DC to a packed, enthusiastic house. Their dedication to the works of contemporary American composers is reflected in their programming, and the sheer, obvious joy they have in performing together communicates directly to their audiences.ġ998-99 marked the inaugural season of OPUS ONE.

Concepts to help break down barriers include special concerts in which the members of OPUS ONE collaborate together with young musicians. The members of OPUS ONE are deeply committed to chamber music education and one of the innovative projects they have developed is workshops with amateurs as well as students.

As soloists as well as chamber musicians, they are each familiar figures in concert halls throughout the world and have joined together to form one of the most exciting groups performing anywhere. Veterans as well as present members of the world's most prestigious chamber groups including the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Tashi, the Beaux Arts Trio and the Orion and Guarneri String Quartets, OPUS ONE is the result of a mutual love of music making between four extraordinary instrumentalists and friends. OPUS ONE brings together four of the leading musicians of our time, Pianist Anne-Marie McDermott, Violinist Ida Kavafian, Violist Steven Tenenbom, and Cellist Peter Wiley.
